Machining Material Ti-99.6 (Grade 2)

Material Ti-99.6 (Grade 2) is a pure tianium material with a machinability rating of 40%.

Pure titanium grades exhibit excellent corrosion resistance in environments that include: calcium chloride, cupric chloride, various concentrations of acetic acid, and high-temperature seawater.

However, they lack strength and hardness when compared to titanium alloys such as Ti-6Al-4V. Therefore they are used in oil & gas components, reaction and pressure vessels, tubing systems and heat exchangers, or any other application where corrosion resistance and chemical stability are required but high strength is not needed.

Pure titanium is very ductile and needs to be machined with precision-ground and sharp cutting edges. The cutting tool needs to be either uncoated or have a very thin coating layer to preserve the sharpness of the cutting edge.
